Private by design, not by promise
Most online image tools upload your photos to their servers, process them there, and ask you to trust that they are deleted afterwards. Scissor Image works differently: the image engine itself is downloaded to your browser, written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly, and every conversion, compression or crop happens on your own device.
That makes it suitable for ID photos, family pictures, scanned documents and anything else you would rather not hand to a stranger. See how it works and how to verify it yourself.
Why people switch to Scissor Image
Private by design

Frequently asked questions
Is Scissor Image really private?
Yes. Every tool runs inside your browser using an image engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly. Images are read from your device, processed in the tab's memory and saved back to your device. They are never uploaded: the site is static, has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy stops the page from sending data to other servers. You can check this yourself in your browser's network panel.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit, the tools are stored by your browser, so they keep working without an internet connection. You can also install the site as an app from your browser's menu.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark added to your images. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost per image for us to recover.
Is there a file size limit?
Images up to 80 megapixels work, which covers every phone and almost every camera. Very large images need more memory, so phones are slower with them than laptops.
Which formats can it open?
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP in every current browser. HEIC photos from iPhones open in Safari; other browsers cannot read HEIC yet.
