How to convert JPG to WebP
- Choose or drop your JPG images. You can add several.
- Check the options.
- Select Convert to WebP, then download the image or a ZIP of all of them.
Why WebP
WebP is supported by every current browser and is the format many website builders and speed tests recommend.
Quality
Images are saved as lossless WebP: the pixels are copied exactly. For photos this file can be larger than the JPG; for screenshots and graphics it is usually smaller.
Questions about JPG to WebP
Are my images uploaded when I convert JPG to WebP?
No. Scissor Image runs an image engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your images are read from your device into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; each is converted, and you download them together as a ZIP file.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white. PNG and WebP keep transparency exactly.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark added to your images. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost per image for us to recover.
