How to remove location from a photo

  1. Choose or drop your photos.
  2. See which hidden details were found.
  3. Select Remove details, then download the clean copies.

What is removed

GPS location, camera and lens, date and time, editing software, XMP data and comments. The orientation is kept, so photos stay the right way up.

Same picture

JPG, PNG and WebP are cleaned by editing the file around the image data, so the picture is not re-compressed and looks exactly the same.

Questions about Remove location

Are my images uploaded when I remove the details?

No. Scissor Image runs an image engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your images are read from your device into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Do messaging apps remove the location?

Some do and some do not, and email, cloud links and file transfers usually keep it. Removing it yourself is the only way to be sure.

Which formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP are cleaned without re-saving. Other formats, such as HEIC in Safari, are re-saved as a new image, which also contains no details.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark added to your images. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost per image for us to recover.
