How to make a favicon

  1. Choose or drop your logo, ideally square and at least 512 pixels.
  2. Keep transparency or use a white background.
  3. Select Make favicons, then unzip the files into your website's root folder.

What you get

favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel icons, 16 and 32 pixel PNGs, a 180 pixel Apple touch icon, 192 and 512 pixel Android icons, site.webmanifest and paste-into-head.html with the tags to add.

Square images

Icons are square. If your image is not, the largest square from its middle is used; crop it first to choose a different part.

Questions about Favicon generator

Are my images uploaded when I make favicons?

No. Scissor Image runs an image engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your images are read from your device into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Do I still need favicon.ico?

Yes: some browsers and tools still ask for /favicon.ico first. The PNGs and the manifest cover phones and modern browsers.

Where do I put the files?

In the root folder of your website, next to the home page. Then paste the lines from paste-into-head.html into the head of your pages.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark added to your images. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost per image for us to recover.
