How to redact an image

  1. Choose or drop your image.
  2. Drag a box over everything you want to hide, and pick Black box or Pixelate.
  3. Select Redact, then download the image.

Really removed

The pixels under each box are replaced in the saved file, not just covered by a layer that could be lifted off. A black box is the safest choice for text and numbers.

Private by design

Redaction is for things you do not want others to see, so it matters that the original never leaves your device. Nothing is uploaded at any point.

Questions about Redact image

Are my images uploaded when I redact it?

No. Scissor Image runs an image engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your images are read from your device into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Is pixelating safe?

Large blocks hide faces well. For text and numbers, use Black box: fine pixelation of short text can sometimes be guessed.

Does it also remove the location?

The saved image is a new file without the original's location and camera details.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark added to your images. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost per image for us to recover.
