How to resize a photo for Instagram

  1. Choose or drop your photos.
  2. Pick Square, Portrait or Story.
  3. Select Resize for Instagram, then download.

The sizes

Square posts are 1080 × 1080, portrait posts 1080 × 1350 and stories and Reels 1080 × 1920 pixels. The photo fills the frame and the edges are trimmed evenly.

Questions about Instagram sizes

Are my images uploaded when I resize them?

No. Scissor Image runs an image engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your images are read from your device into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Which size is best for the feed?

Portrait (1080 × 1350) takes up the most space in the feed. Square is the classic choice.

Will Instagram compress it again?

Instagram re-compresses every upload, but starting from its own size avoids an extra resize, which keeps photos sharper.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark added to your images. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost per image for us to recover.
